Miller “Mighty Mite” Huggins was a nice little player with a good bat and outstanding baserunning abilities. The story, however, does not end there. He also managed the greatest team ever assembled, the 1927 New York Yankees. Coming from a managerial stint with St. Louis, he helped build the Yankees juggernaut with Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and company. His Yankees won the 1923, 1927, and 1928 World Series along with the 1921, 1922, and 1926 AL pennants. Huggins died at age 50 in 1929 from a bacterial infection. Thousands of fans came to Yankee Stadium to view his casket and honor this beloved figure. Huggins was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1964.
