One of the most colorful player/managers in the history of the game, Hughie Jennings was known for his famous shouts from the coaching box, earning him the nickname “Ee-Yah.” Although his accomplishments as a player are sometimes overlooked, he batted .335, .386, and .401 over three seasons and played on two National League pennant teams for the Superbas (1899, 1900). He also holds the MLB record for being hit by pitches (287). As a manager, he led the Tigers to three American League pennants (1907, 1908, 1909) and the Giants to the National League pennant in 1924, but his teams never won the big one. Medical issues forced him to retire in 1925. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1945.
