Burly fireballer “Wabash George” Mullin helped the Tigers win three consecutive pennants from 1907 to 1909 behind Ty Cobb and manager Hughie Jennings. Sixty-six of his 228 career wins came in that span, including a career-high, league-leading 29 wins in 1909. That year he went 29–8, with a 2.22 ERA. He also pitched a July 4 no-hitter against the Browns in 1912. He holds the Tigers’ record for innings pitched and has the second-most wins in team history. Mullin won 20 or more games on five different occasions. After his MLB days, he coached in the minors until 1921, and then retired to become a policeman in Wabash, Indiana.
