Frank “Home Run” Baker got his nickname by taking both Rube Marquard and Christy Mathewson deep in the 1911 World Series. He was considered the best pre–World War I third baseman of his time. He played on three A’s World Series championship teams and two American League pennant teams with the Yanks. Baker led the league in home runs four consecutive years (1911–1914), was the RBI champ in 1912 and 1913, and batted over .300 on six different occasions. He was part of Connie Mack’s $100,000 infield along with Stuffy McInnis and Eddie Collins. Baker later became a minor league manager and discovered the great Jimmy Foxx. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1951.
